December 10 by Carrie Edwards

Reading: Luke 1:46-49 (NLT)
Magnificat: Mary’s Song of Praise

46Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. 47How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! 48For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. 49For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.”

Luke 1:46-49 (KJV) – 46And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. 48For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

In response to her relative Elizabeth and Elizabeth’s baby who leapt for joy within her womb (whom we later know as John the Baptist), Mary’s soul, her innermost part of her being, magnified the Lord and her spirit rejoiced in God, her Savior. Mary recognized herself as a lowly servant girl, a handmaiden; yet, she expressed praise and honor to God for His treatment of her, for His blessings, for choosing her. Mary offered praise to the Lord for all generations to come. She understood and accepted she was chosen to carry and birth the Son of God, the Savior of the world! Mary acknowledged the goodness and holiness of the Mighty One through the great things He had done and was going to do. She took delight in His blessings, in His presence in her life, in His purpose for her life. Mary embraced the sovereignty of the Lord. Mary, a humble, faithful servant, was blessed and highly favored.

I don’t know where you are in life at this moment. I don’t know what you are feeling. I don’t know what you are struggling with or going through. I don’t know your story. I do know this, and I want you to be sure of these truths. You are not alone! The Lord is still on His throne. He is still sovereign. He is calling you. He wants you to draw near to Him. By His sovereign and gentle hands, God created you for a purpose, on purpose. You are loved. You are chosen. You are treasured. You are adored. You are strong. You are enough. You are a cherished child of God. Your worth is found only in God, your Father. Your identity is found in Jesus, your Savior. The Lord wants to heap blessings on you. Find peace and purpose in God, your Creator. Rest your soul in Jesus, your Savior. Magnify the Lord. In your weakness, in your lowliness, in your humbleness, let your spirit praise Him. Recognize His goodness and the great things He has done. Bask in the Lord’s delight; He adores you! You are blessed and highly favored!
