Advent Daily Devotional: December 24
December 24 by Kayla Kelly
Reading: Matthew 2:7-8
Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him."
Oh how uncertain Herod was in those days! I'm sure he was anxious and scared of what might be ahead. He wouldn't have admitted that weakness, but the fact that he secretly summoned the wise men gives us a peek into the workings of his mind. He knew a King was to be born, but he had no idea just how the birth of this King would affect him. Herod tried to manipulate the situation to have the upper hand, but in doing so completely missed the blessing of worshipping the new born King.
We too are uncertain and anxious about the days ahead, but unlike Herod, we don’t have to wonder (wander) where Jesus is in the midst of the unknown. We don't have to get caught up in the frenzy and chaos that the unknown often seems to create. We have the incredible gift of God's Word available to us. We don't have to secretly ask where Love, Joy and Peace can be found. We can go and search diligently and with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit we will find the Prince of Peace who will guide us.
So on this Christmas Eve, I invite you to come and worship the new born King. To seek after Him and know that He has promised that you will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart.
